ABOUT This simple, seamless pillow is a fantastic gift for any little and is the perfect addtion to any bedroom or reading nook! Babies and "big" kids alike will find the shape interesting and adore how soft it is.
TIP: Make 1 pillow per kid. I didn't and we now have to remember who's turn it is each night 😅
BEHIND THE DESIGN
Guys, this adorable, little pillow was not always so...well... adorable. There was a LOT of trial and error. I mean, just take a look at this attempt. (And feel free to laugh. I know I did!)
Absolutely hideous, right?! It looked like a really ugly, awkward, grey Patrick Star.
Anywho, although this fail was quite humorous, it was also REALLY not. In all honesty, I was freaking out! This project was a collaboration with Lion Brand Yarn. Like.. I couldn't give them this?! They would NEVER work with me again.
So what did I do? I showed my other half, Kyle, and reached out to my Insta friend, Sandra (@nomadstitches). And after MUCH laughter, they each gave great advice. 5 amputations later... voila! An adorable star was born!
SNUGGABLE STAR PILLOW
SKILL LEVEL - Easy
About 14 in. (35.5 cm)
- Large-eyed blunt needle
- Stitch markers
- Fiberfill stuffing
inc – increase (see notes)
rnd – round
rs – right side (of work)
sc = single crochet
sc2tog = single crochet 2 together
slst = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
22 sc + 22 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm)
EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL FOR THIS PROJECT.
sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.
1. Star is worked in the round, from the center out
2. The beginning ch 1 does NOT count as a st
3. Inc – 2 scs in next stitch
4. Exact gauge is not important for this project. Work tightly so that stuffing does not through spaces between stitches.
5. Email email@example.com if you have any questions or concerns!
CIRCLE x2 Magic ring Rnd 1: ch 1, work 5 sc in magic ring, slst into first st. Pull beginning tail tight to close circle. - 5 sc. Rnd 2: ch 1, *work 2 sc in next st, place st marker in 2nd st*; rep * around. You should have a total of 5 markers. Continue to move each marker up in second st of inc as each rnd is completed. - 10 sc. Rnd 3: ch 1, *sc until you reach marker, place 2 sc in next st*; rep from * around, slst into first st - 15 sc. Rnds 4-25: Repeat previous rnd - 125 sc.
Fasten off. Keep markers on for future use.
Once you have made 2 circles, place the circles on top of each other making sure the RS is facing out. Align and attach them together using markers. STAR POINT x5 Place an additional marker in the middle of the circle on the side you begin working on (this will show you which side of the star you will always need to begin on). Then, choose any marker and attach a new stand of yarn to the st just right of it. Rnd 1: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 24 sts, turn, working on the other circle sc in next 24 sts, sc2tog, slst into first st - 50 sc. Rnd 2: ch 1, sc in each st around, slst into first st - 50 sc. Rnd 3: ch 1, *sc2tog, sc in next 21 sts, sc2tog*; rep from * around, slst into first st - 46 sc. Rnds 4-5: ch 1, sc in each st around, slst into first st - 46 sc. Rnd 6: ch 1, *sc2tog, sc in next 19 sts, sc2tog*; rep from * around, slst into first st - 42 sc.
Rnds 7-8: ch 1, sc in each st around, slst into first st - 42 sc. Rnd 9: ch 1, *sc2tog, sc in next 17 sts, sc2tog*; repeat from * around, slst into first st - 38 sc. Rnds 10-11: ch 1, sc in each st around, slst into first st - 38 sc. Rnd 12: ch 1, *sc2tog, sc in next 15 sts, sc2tog*, repeat from * around, slst into first st - 34 sc. Rnds 13-14: ch 1, sc in each st around, slst into first st - 34 sc. Rnd 15: ch 1, *sc2tog, sc in next 13 sts, sc2tog*, repeat from * around, slst into first st - 30 sc. Rnd 16: ch 1, sc in each st around, slst into first st - 30 sc. Rnd 17: ch 1, sc2tog around, slst into first st - 15 sc. Rnd 18: ch 1, sc, sc2tog around, slst into first st - 8 sc. Rnd 19: ch 1, sc2tog around, slst into first st - 4 sc. Fasten off leaving a 6" tail. With threading needle, weave tail through each st and pull tight to close circle.
Repeat 3 more x. Before beginning 5th point, stuff star firmly with fiberfill stuffing. Then, stuff 5th point firmly with fiberfill stuffing after rnd 18.
Weave in yarn ends.
